Transition
During their English lessons, students in TRA have been studying the epic story, Beowulf. The boys watched a short video retelling the story to support their understanding of the plot and key characters. Following this, they wrote sentences describing the heroic characteristics of Beowulf and the frightening qualities of the monster he defeats, Grendel. The lessons focused on the use of a range of descriptive adjectives, correct use of capital letters, and the ability to discuss ideas before writing. Upon completion, students read their work aloud to staff, helping to develop their reading confidence and speaking skills.

During their mathematics lessons, students in TRA are practising their 2, 3 and 5 times tables. Staff have created a positive and engaging learning environment by incorporating a range of interactive activities, including Maths Bingo, Maths Bamboozle and the online game Hit the Button. These activities support students in developing their multiplication skills while keeping learning enjoyable and accessible.

This term in PSHE, students in TRA have been exploring the theme of celebrating differences. They have been learning about how everyone is unique, how people may look different, and how individuals can hold different beliefs and religions. In addition, the boys have been learning about the importance of water for maintaining good overall health. To support this, all students have their own personal water bottles, encouraging them to drink fluids regularly throughout the school day.
During their Humanities lessons this term, students in TRA have been learning about Ancient Greece. They have explored a range of facts about life in Ancient Greece and developed an understanding of historical timelines. As part of their learning, the boys have coloured the Greek flag and had the opportunity to experience and sample a variety of Greek foods.
During Forest School sessions, students in TRA have been supporting the construction of a tree house by helping to set up the drainage for its base. The boys worked together to find suitable rocks and dig holes for the foundations. Alongside this, they have enjoyed exploring the outdoor environment and using their imagination to create and play their own games.

During Thrive afternoons, students in TRA have been developing their teamwork skills by focusing on working together and taking turns. On one afternoon, the boys played the board game Frustration, successfully taking part and remaining engaged throughout the activity. On another occasion, they worked collaboratively to assemble a Scalextric track and tested different cars to determine which performed most effectively.

Some students in TRA have the opportunity to take part in weekly horse-riding sessions. This valuable activity encourages responsibility, perseverance and care for animals. The boys learn key aspects of stable management, including brushing and tacking up their ponies, mucking out stalls, collecting hay for hay nets and preparing evening feeds. Following this, students may choose to take part in a riding lesson in the indoor arena or enjoy a ride around the local village.
