Home Cooking Skills

Cooking at Marland has been exciting and creative. Students have showcased many skills through their own background knowledge, being guided, advised and taught during lessons with an emphasis on practical cooking skills highlighting their development and thorough understanding of nutrition, food provenance and the working characteristics of food materials.

 

Students learn how to cook and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating and will develop skills including: teamwork, effective listening and observation of demonstrations, product analytical skills, practical confidence, hand/eye co-ordination, use of equipment and processes, problem solving through recipe development, evaluating skills and personal hygiene all of which are essential life skills. Health and safety will be a consistent thread throughout linking to home, school and the food industry.


Students will nurture their practical cookery skills giving them strong understandings of real world and life cooking. The lessons are fast paced and challenging and will put your theoretical and practical understanding of food into practice.
