Science

Science is taught in a fully equipped specialist science laboratory to enable pupils to take part in a range of interesting and exciting practical activities. This helps to motive pupils to learn and understand the world around them. It allows them to ask their own questions of science and, through planning and carrying out experiments, find answers. Science also provides pupils with scientific knowledge and understanding that they can apply to everyday life situations.

In KS3 students follow the National Curriculum, the wide range of resources and learning opportunities mean that lessons are planned and work is adapted and personalised to meet the needs of all pupils. At KS4 Students progress through AQA GCSE Science starting with GCSE Biology.

This Term

Boys have been working on achieving good grades in Biology GCSE. We have covered topics including Genetics, Respiration and Cells. Students have dissected lungs, made animal plant and animal cells in lessons.

Topics in physics covered were static electricity, energy and combustion, these were investigated using the new Van de Graff generator.

There has been a number of reward trips for boys that have made good progress in science.

Boys carry out as much practical tasks as possible to enhance their motivation, understanding and learning. The main focus is on developing science related skills, and working towards being able to work safely and in groups. We deliver practical aspects of all three sciences Biology, Physics and Chemistry.

Ecology

Lots of students attended the birds of prey exhibition in the school woods, this has been really constructive in helping them understand predator-prey relationships for students in both KS3 and KS4 Ecology.
